PHYSICIAN LEADERSHIP

Dr. Shatul Parikh, a native Atlantan, received his undergraduate degree from Emory University, and completed his medical studies at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Parikh returned to Emory University to complete his residency in Otolaryngology. Dr. Parikh is a nationally recognized expert in minimally invasive thyroid/parathyroid surgery. Currently an instructor for the American Board of Otolaryngology, Dr. Parikh teaches other surgeons advanced techniques in thyroid/parathyroid surgery. He is also experienced in all routine ENT procedures. Dr. Parikh is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He is also the medical director of Northwest ENT Surgery Center.

He attended Davidson College on a full academic scholarship. After majoring in Chemistry and graduating magna cum laude, Dr. Coleman was fortunate to receive a Robert W. Woodruff Fellowship in Medicine, a full academic scholarship to attend Emory University School of Medicine. He was also honored with the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship, given for leadership and dedication to public service. Dr. Coleman graduated from medical school with honors, was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and received the Hewlett-Packard Medical Graduate Award.

Dr. Coleman's training then continued in Nashville, Tennessee at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He completed both an internship in general surgery and a residency in Otolaryngology/Head Neck Surgery. In addition to his patient care responsibilities, Dr. Coleman performed award-winning research, published numerous articles and book chapters and gave talks frequently on the national and local levels. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Coleman was awarded a competitive fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of California, Davis. While continuing to practice general otolaryngology, Dr. Coleman worked with innovators in the fields of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery using state of the art instrumentation and the latest techniques. He became skilled in numerous procedures including endoscopic brow lifting, deep plane face lifting, rhinoplasty, laser surgery, cleft lip and palate repair and reconstruction of skin cancer defects.

While in California and now in Atlanta, Dr. Coleman travels abroad and donates his talents. Together with his wife Jennifer, an anesthetist, they have performed cleft lip and palate surgery in Lucena City, Philippines and Guayquil, Ecaudor for indigent children and young adults. Outside of medicine, John and Jennifer enjoy outdoor activities including travel, biking and golf.

He graduated from Valdosta High School and attended Emory University where he got a B.A. in History. He went to medical school in Augusta, GA and was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society. He completed a general surgery internship at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. This was followed by a residency in Otolaryngology. He moved back to Valdosta in 1995 where he has practiced since.

Dr. Allen is board certified by the American Board of OTO/HNS and a member of the American Academy of OTO/HNS and Georgia Society of OTD/HNS. He is active on the medical staff of South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA.

Frederic E. Levy, MD, is a native of Chicago, Illinois, and a graduate of the University of Illinois in Champaign where he majored in biology. He earned his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago.

Having grown up in Chicago, Dr. Levy is a huge fan of Chicago sports teams and played most team sports. He participated in track and field in high school and currently runs 50-60 miles per week. Along with other physician friends, he runs 15 races, including 5 marathons, per year. He's run 10 Boston Marathons and has run marathons in 6 countries, including Israel and Japan.

Music is also a part of Dr. Levy's life. He plays bass guitar and has been a member of various bands since he was fifteen years old. His most recent being a classic rock band named "Sonic Tonsil".

Dr. Levy is a proud father of a UNC Chapel Hill graduate (computer science major) son who plays soccer and guitar and a daughter who is a student at Appalachian State University (graphic design major).

Dr. Karkhanis joined Allergy SA in 2014. Dr. Karkhanis is board certified in Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology. Dr. Karkhanis received her medical degree with honors from Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital in Mumbai, India. She was engaged in research activities at the University of Pittsburgh, after which she completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and Columbia University in New York, New York and her fellowship in Allergy and Immunology from Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

She is an active participant in national allergy meetings, and has presented and published multiple reports. She is also an active member of the following organizations: American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, Texas Medical Association, Texas Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Society and San Antonio Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Society. Dr. Karkhanis works with pediatric and adult patients to help treat allergies and asthma.

She also serves as a Sub-Investigator on several studies at the Allergy and Asthma Research Center, which keeps her abreast of the latest developments in the field. In her spare time, she enjoys art, literature, culinary experimentation and spending time with her family.

Dr. Lee is the founder and Medical Director of Reston ENT. A native of west Michigan, he earned his medical degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. Dr. Lee completed his residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Lee has received several scholarships and awards for his clinical and academic achievements. He has also been named Top Doctor in the past several Washingtonian Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine, and Consumers' Checkbook peer-nominated physician surveys. Dr. Lee is dedicated to providing quality patient care in a wide range of ear, nose, and throat conditions and has been trained in the latest medical and surgical methods. He specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of sinus and nasal conditions including nasal obstruction, chronic sinusitis, snoring, nasal allergies, deviated nasal septum, turbinate hypertrophy and sinonasal tumors. He performs minimally-invasive sinus surgery, balloon sinuplasty, septoplasty and endoscopic orbital surgery including dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR). He also has expertise in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, sleep apnea surgery, and voice disorders. Dr. Lee lives with his wife in Northern Virginia. 

Dr. Shotts began practicing in Louisville with Commonwealth Ear, Nose, and Throat in January 2003 and joined the new Advanced ENT & Allergy in 2010 at the time of the merger. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, he began his medical education at Wright State University earning a B.S.E. in biomedical engineering with highest honors while competing in Division I tennis.

Upon completion of undergraduate studies, he went on to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, finishing at the top of his class and earning his Doctor of Medicine on full scholarship. He then moved to Lexington, Kentucky where he completed five years of residency training in otolaryngology /head and neck surgery at the University of Kentucky. Being fully trained, he moved to St. Louis to fulfill an active duty commitment to the US Air Force. There, he served as the Chief of the Department of Otolaryngology at Scott Air Force Base, Assistant Professor at Saint Louis University, and director of the ENT clinic at the VA Hospital in Marion, IL.

While serving in the military, he completed the Air Force Aerospace Medicine course as a distinguished graduate and was additionally certified as a flight surgeon. He honorably separated from the military in the fall of 2002 as a Major with the National Defense Service Medal with bronze cluster.

Because of an intense desire to continue developing practical skills, he then spent 4 months living in Spain and Costa Rica attending an intensive Spanish immersion program, and now speaks fluent Spanish.

In addition to being board-certified in otolaryngology/head & and neck surgery, he is a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Surgeons and has successfully passed both the oral and written board examination in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.

He keeps an active role in educating University of Louisville medical students, who do elective rotations in the office. He has always maintained a special focus on facial plastic and reconstructive surgery but never wanted to limit his practice to this entirely. This focus has widened considerably and now his biggest interests are the medical and surgical management of sinus disease, thyroid and parathyroid disease, and head and neck disorders affecting the pediatric population. Keeping with this interest, he pursued additional post-graduate training in allergy diagnosis and management and, after passing the oral and written exam administered by the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, is now a Fellow of the AAOA.

In August 2010 he was voted one of Louisville’s top surgeons performing sinus surgery by physician peers in a survey conducted by Louisville magazine and prides himself on an extremely high success rate of first and only sinus surgery and revision of surgery performed by other surgeons. So, if you are contemplating sinus surgery or have had it and are not improving, he would like the chance to help.

In August 2015, he was also voted a top doctor in the field of otolaryngology by his physician peers in Louisville Magazine. He maintains a constant desire to learn and attends national meetings and education seminars frequently throughout the year to ensure the latest treatments are available to his patients. Having a degree in biomedical engineering is also very handy when critically evaluating new technologies.

Athletics and travel have always been a big part of his life. While living in St. Louis, he was very active in triathlons and competed all over the country in half Ironman competitions. He has played USTA tennis for years and is rated a 4.5. He enjoys working out and is a big fan of Tony Horton’s P90X and Shaun T’s Insanity. While living in Costa Rica, he developed a love for surfing and travels frequently to keep up these skills. He enjoys snowboarding, although not so secretly wishes it could be done someplace warm. Due to residency ties, he is a fan of UK basketball; he still is a big supporter of U of L athletics. He loves to read, and his favorite books are Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. He is accepting new patients and has appointments available at the St. Matthews and New Albany offices.

Dr. Baskin received his undergraduate education from Wake Forest University. After earning his medical degree at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine he proceeded to surgical internship at Mercer University. From there he traveled to the University of Florida where he completed residency training in otolaryngology.

His interests include nasal and sinus pathology, pediatric otolaryngology, head and neck cancer, hearing disorders, as well as other problems within the field of general otolaryngology. Outside of the office he enjoys water sports, college football, reading and photography.

Dr. Vickery received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, where he also completed a residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Allergy and Immunology. His undergraduate degree was earned at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. While Dr. Vickery and his wife are from Tennessee, he was born in Athens, GA, and his father attended graduate school at the University of Georgia. They remain UT fans but will pull for UGA when not playing against the Vols.

Dr. Vickery sees children and adults for asthma, allergic diseases, and immunologic disorders. He is a member of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), American College of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI), American College of Physicians (ACP), and American Medical Association (AMA).

Both Dr. Vickery and his wife Bethany have suffered with allergies and asthma. Keeping these conditions under control has allowed them to lead active lifestyles. Bethany has completed multiple marathons and half marathons. Dr. Vickery, trailing behind his wife, has completed half marathons, and Olympic distance triathlons. Dr. Vickery also enjoys competitive tennis.

Dr. Walsh Thomas is a Board-Certified Otolaryngologist. After completing his undergrad at Furman University, he received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He then completed a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Oregon Health & Sciences University. Dr. Thomas brings great expertise in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of patients with head and neck cancer, skin cancer of the head and neck including melanoma, and aerodigestive squamous cell disease of the head and neck.

Dr. Lily Hwang’s professional journey began after witnessing the powerful impact of compassion from others. At age 3, Dr. Hwang and her family of Chinese descent immigrated to the U.S. from Vietnam thanks to the selflessness and unwavering support of their sponsor, a kindhearted Alabama farmer. Later in high school while volunteering in a hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, she was struck by the dedication of healthcare professionals saving the lives of fragile newborns. These experiences pushed Dr. Hwang to seek a pre-med bachelor's degree from University of Tennessee Chattanooga and a medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine.

Driven by personal experiences, Dr. Hwang went on to complete her fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at Rush University Medical Center/John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Illinois.

Today, Dr. Hwang continues to appreciate the thrill of being involved in such an ever-advancing field of medicine. She stays on top of the latest medical and technological developments in allergy and immunology by reading up-to-the-minute journals and attending conferences.

“There are always new things happening in the allergy medical community,” Dr. Hwang said. “It’s exciting to be involved in such a dynamic specialty. Using that knowledge and being able to tell a patient ‘I think we can change your life’ is what keeps me going.”

In her spare time, Dr. Hwang enjoys spending time and vacationing with her husband, their two children, her parents, and siblings.

Dr. Humphries is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a recognized leader in asthma and allergy care. A former chairman of the North Carolina Asthma Board, he has contributed extensively to asthma research and education throughout his career.

With over 35,000 patient evaluations, Dr. Humphries brings years of focused clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of asthma and allergic diseases. He is frequently consulted by other providers for support with patients experiencing chronic asthma or severe allergic rhinitis. His commitment to high-quality patient care has earned him the Charlotte Top Docs award multiple times. 

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Humphries is a proud father of six. He enjoys traveling with his family, fishing, and working on hands-on projects around his farm.

Dr. McClelland is a Board-Certified Otolaryngologist as well as the Founding Partner of CornerStone Ear, Nose & Throat. Clinical expertise and an unwavering commitment to each patient – these are the principles with which Dr. McClelland founded CornerStone Ear, Nose & Throat, and they have been embodied in the growth and success of the practice since its inception in 1994. 

Dr. McClelland specializes in nasal and sinus surgery, and is recognized as a Castle Connolly and Charlotte Magazine Top Doctor. 

Dr. Bruce Finkel has practiced medicine in Savannah since 1995. In 1999, he co-founded Coastal Allergy & Asthma, P.C. and AeroAllergy Research Laboratories of Savannah, Inc. 

Dr. Finkel has lectured and published extensively on topics related to allergy, asthma, and other immunological disorders. Dr. Finkel is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology, the American College of Allergy Asthma & Immunology, and the American Association of Pediatrics, and is also a member of the Southeastern Allergy Association, the Medical Association of Georgia, and the Joint Council of Allergy Asthma, and Immunology. 

Dr. Finkel is one of the few physicians in the region to become a Certified Principal Investigator for ethical standards and practices in clinical research. Dr. Finkel is past Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, Memorial Health University Medical Center, 2001-2003, and is currently Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Mercer University School of Medicine, Savannah Campus.

Dr. Drew M. Locandro is the founding partner of Northwest ENT, first established in 2001.

Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Drew M. Locandro received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University. He attended Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, New Jersey, where he specialized in otolaryngology and completed his residency at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. Dr. Locandro has extensive experience with common ENT procedures and special expertise with nasal/sinus surgery, cosmetic nasal surgery, and advanced ear surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
